    Dearest Phoebe,

You are quiet, but wildly smart, curious about the world around you, perspective, and, I think, a true love of learning & growing as a person. This is a rarity, I assure you. You have much to say & much to contribute to those around you & to the world at large. Please don’t ever doubt that. You are sensitive & beautiful, inside & out, and I admire you greatly! <3 Ms. Rigdon

    Dear Madison,

The other day you lost your first tooth. The date was April 13, 2005, you were “age 5”. The reason that I am writing you this letter today is because I realize that you are growing up. I just wanted to express to you some “words of wisdom”. There are so many things in life that I hope for you. Of course I don’t wish bad things for you. But there are some things I do hope for you that may surprise you. I hope you take chances and never have regrets. When you have a chance to do something, even if it scary DO IT! Don’t miss out because you are afraid of failing. We all have success and failure, because of failure you will build strength and will keep you humble. We all fail in some ways. Nobody is ever perfect, knowing and accepting this will bring you far in life. Its learning from our mistakes that makes us better people. Don’t ever get full of yourself; people are people, plain and simple. No one is better than you and you are no better than anyone else. I hope you never take what you have for granted, it could all change in a moment. Believe! Believe in yourself and believe in fate. Things just have a way of working themselves out. Life means taking chances, and believe me they are worth taking. See the world, when you just think that there isn’t enough hours in the day take your kid to the park and forget the dishes. Sweetie, what I am trying to get across is that you only live once and life is a gift, live life, don’t just get by. There is a song by Leeann Womack; I burned a copy for you, called “I hope you dance”. This song explains what I am trying to say. Someday when you’re an old lady I hope you look back on your life and can truly say that you did things, and/or are happy with your life. I hope that you don’t look back and say to yourself “Man if I had only…”. I love you so much. You are the light at the end of my tunnel. All I want for you is to be happy. Life’s short, live it while you can…

    Love,

    Mom
